Hash 10XX | Remete hegy | November 21st 2010

The Remete hegy (Remete hill) run #10XX, 21 November

The pack assembled at the usual place of just opposite the exit of the Batthyanyi ter metro stationby the wall of the embankment, at 11:30. The RA had done the necessary with the weather; no rain although some thought that it might snow. It was interesting to see some ‘new’ faces although sadly none were (hash) virgins. It was also interesting to see those who did not attend this week: perhaps they had better offers or was it the fact that they had heard that there would be no chance to shop on the hash this week?

When it was time to depart the cry was hear, “who has a transit pass”? If so, then your chauffeur is waiting for you, in the metro. The others will have to squeeze into the car. The metro trip was short, in fact just a single stop. We then moved onto a tram moving away from of the city and rising up the hill. Then, when the tram could go do further, it was time to take a bus and so it was the pack finally came to the Budaliget/Szaszszorazep Villapark area.

At the starting point we were met by the hares Angela & Nata sipping coffee. They had prepared themselves for the weather. Soon the run started and as expected the run went to the top of the nearby hill and the view was appreciated by most.

As most of the leaves have not fallen from the trees it was an easy trail to follow although the check points caught many unawares. Upon one occasion much interest and discussion took place at the site of a wild boar rutting hole.

Soon it was back down and around the hill. Due to form the pack proceeded through the centre of an (outdoor) church although some would refer to it as a park.

After the run champers appeared as it was Nata’s birthday.

The circle was called and pleas from the guilty were heard before they were punished with a down down. When asked of the run no complaints of it being too flat were heard this week. In fact the general feeling was that the hares RBB (Nata) and EHJ (Angela) are to be commended. It was a run which all enjoyed and it has set a new standard for others.

Just three survivors were able to find the ON Dinner (restaurant). The rest of the pack were either too weary or had better offers.

Hash 1090 – 03 October 2010 – SAS Hegy

Hash 1090 – 03 October 2010 – SAS Hegy

It was a beautiful Sunday as was evidenced by the size of the group that showed up for the Hash. Of course the crowd could have been because someone had let slip the news that Our Belgrade emigrants had returned for the day and all wanted to welcome home Pussy Willow and Sex Tax if only for the day. (Actually they had arrived Saturday to enjoy Soft Pawn’s wonderful Chili Feast)

There was no hare and no trail had been set or planned but this did not deter Run-by-Batteries from collecting the Hash cash. Then she and Jaws set out immediately to spend it on beer and water. (No! It wasn’t just for the two of them but was for the Hash!) After some discussion it was decided to revisit one of our favorite venues, SAS Hegy.

There were sufficient vehicles so everyone mounted up and off we went to the road behind the Novotel Expo Center where we parked. The Incredible Hulk was a bit under the weather and most others weren’t leaping about looking for a run so we decided to make it a walking hash for the whole group.

We took off climbing the hill on the way to the nature reserve with the lead changing hands many times from Eagar Beaver and Bang Cock to Giving Head and NFHN Joseph to Sex Tax and Easy Head Job and others while Mamma-San and virgin Zoltan brought up the rear. After much huffing and puffing we arrived at the gate to the SAS Hegy Nature Reserve. We all went inside and actually paid our entry fees. (I suspect that was because several had a desire to “use the facilities).

While we milled about, someone, either Giving Head or Haggis, arranged for us to join a guided tour. I must admit that this was very interesting and the lovely young lady who was our guide proved very knowledgeable. Many thanks to Haggis for her excellent translation of the information.

After our guided tour we followed the path to the top of the hill and enjoyed the view and even saw where Haggis’ building is located on the map. Finally we stumbled back down the route we had taken going up and returned to the cars where we held the circle on the grass behind the Expo Center.

Giving Head was nominated and did a fine job as RA, calling out the returnees who were legion, identifying our virgin, Zoltan, and awarding punishments. Our Master of Music, Hot Steam, proved up to the occasion and had a song for every item. We muddled through to the end then closed with the Hash Hymn and adjourned to the nearby Golden Bridge (?) etterem for a restful and enjoyable lunch.

ON! ON!

Trash...last Sunday in August 2010

Run Report for Hash number one thousand and rumpty plonk.

There was a fair gathering of regular hashers at the meeting place on a sunny last-August-Sunday morning. It was good to welcome our visiting ex-GM and Pussy Willow again, with Run by Battery, Sunny Side Up, Flat Tyre, Hot Steam, Haggis and Incredible Hulk plus Rabies paying a flying visit since he needed to go to his grand daughters birthday (or was it great grand daughter? I forget) which he seemed to think was more important than hashing (since his private parts may become damaged by a bottle of Tokai Sweet if he failed to return).

The live hare was IH, so after parking up at the nuclear research station near Norma-Fa, IH took his flour supplies off into the Fa (wood).

The band of hashers followed, using most of their energy on oral activities, so there was not much chance of them catching up with the hare. The trail followed the road in a South-Westerly direction to the road’s end before the first check, with a nice long false trail marked with an “X” (as were all the false trails on this live run, in the knowledge that the hare was well ahead of the pack at all times). The trail went left, then down to the right beside the large green field, surrounded by a new tall fence – it used to be an easy walk along the fence, but the new fence was 3 or 4 times as long, going very much deeper into the forest. The butterflies and other insect life were interesting and numerous in this undisturbed area where few walkers had passed through. Eventually the path arrived at the wide gravel track, and back into warm sunshine on this somewhat comparatively chilly day after the 30C days of summer. The trial, when the false trails had been followed, went right then right again and up the hill to the old memorial glider wing mounted on the top. The hashers stopped and took in the view for a while here on this very clear day, where we could see forever. Although I was the hare, from this point I could see the hashers from a vantage point on the next hill. So as they moved off following the arrows taking them across country down the slope to the trees, some of them trotted off to pollute the trail behind the trees in full view of IH on the distant hill (notes taken for the DDs later). The trail was a little difficult to follow here, with blobs on rocks and the few small patches without too much grass, but with Sex Tax leading, the band managed to struggle down the hill, with loose rocks and a difficult surface, Haggis helped the injured RBB down the slope (I had forgotten seeing her wearing an ankle support at the start of the trail!). The trail went on down-down-down into the forest to another check with a nice long falsie, and then up to the right back to the gravel track, straight across and up the next hill, where IH was resting at the top, watching all the gliders taking off from the field below. The hashers eventually made it to the top, where Hot Steam told everyone how she had just seen a snake (a male hasher polluting the trail or real wild-life? You should ask her…). The hashers seemed happy with their trail, having taken about an hour and a half to reach this spot, with a lot of good views, sunshine, wonderful countryside and the chance for a good long natter. So after watching the gliders together, the group headed back to the car (some walkers still talking so much they took the wrong path, but getting there OK in the end). A circle was held with IH as RA for the day, with all taking different DDs for returning, polluting, pointing and the usual offences. Then after a rousing hash hymn, all agreed to go to the Jokai Resto for hash-grub. The building has been renovated by new owners, the Jokai soup not quite matching the standards of the previous owners, but all the food was good and the service was as good and friendly as ever. The terrace being in the shade, and he day being cool, all the hashers were adorned with large bright green or yellow blankets kindly supplied by the resto. The hash discussions covered the usual range of topics, phallic objects and the Chinese food and customs and other equally interesting items… Everyone seemed to have had a good day as they headed off in their different direction (to meet later either at a concert in Pest, or at a csango dance-house at the citadel) maintaining the good hash tradition of having a good time with friends!

Hash Trash for 09 May 2010

to and through Rupp-hegy

Hares Natasha and Igor

For those faint hearts who “chickened out” and didn’t come to the Hash because they were afraid they might get a little wet, you really missed a good trail and a beautiful day.

I must say that this was one of the better trails I have been on since I have been here in Budapest. It was very well marked with marks being set close enough to give that “warm, fuzzy feeling” when you know you are on trail. That means there were many marks placed even along straight runs and not just one at the beginning and the next 10 km further along.

The trail was challenging and we all got a bit of a work out but it was doable. The checks were clearly marked and there were several “Hash Scenic Views”. The runners even had an opportunity for and impromptu beer stop and almost joined a wedding party.

Some of gathered at Battyhanyi (Zsuzsa GH, Csilla HS, Andy CB and myself BC). Since the hares had gone out to lay the trail they informed us where we had to go to meet them. We jumped on the 19 tram following GH who had the instructions. Unfortunately GH got to gabbing with HS and we missed the stop where we were supposed to get off and transfer to another bus. We trundled on down to Gellert, got off, crossed the tracks and caught another tram to take us back to Erszebet hid where we hopped on a number 8 bus. We only had to wait about 5 minutes and during that time we had a very light drizzle and that was the only time we had any rain all day.

We stayed on the number 8 bus past Farkasreti temeto and into what was to me terra incognito. I believe we left the bus at a stop on Torokbalinti ut just before it turns left onto Gazdagreti ut. There we met the Hares and Marina who had gotten there before us. The hares had found a very nice little restaurant with an outdoor patio and were waiting for us there.

We were given a bit of trail instructions advising us that there was a trail split for walkers and runners and Natasha advised the runners not to stop for beer at the top of the hill. (We definitely forgot this advice!) She also suggested that the walkers take that trail also if they felt like it as it would be interesting. Actually GH, CB and myself were the runners and HS and Marina walked with the hares.

Off we went down a narrow lane which promptly turned uphill. After a bit of a climb we got onto a trail which took us across Rupp-hegy for a scenic view. There were actually two scenic views on this section. We continued on, got back on a lane and came to a check. The true trail there broke left passing a number of barking dogs until we came to another check on the road. This one took us on a overgrown trail still going uphill (huffing and puffing) to another narrow lane which was the trail split for runners and walkers and we had a scenic view of a scenic trash pile.

The walkers trail went off to the right down the lane and the runners trail went up a narrow muddy leaf covered trail through the woods. It was a beautiful trail though and again well marked but it did go up and up and up. Finally we reached the top and a parking lot and realized that we were at a restaurant we had stopped at many times before but had always come in from the other direction. I forget the name of it but we have often stopped there after runs starting from the end of the number 90 bus near the nuclear research center. This is where we had our beer stop and saw the wedding party.

After refreshing ourselves it was back on trail. Now it was easy. Again the trail was narrow and through the woods but is was down and down and down but still well marked. After going down for about 20 km (LOL) we came to a road which took us left to civilization. Here we had another scenic view before continuing on down on the narrow lanes. I went the wrong way starting from there and when GH and CB found marks going the other way I told them I would just keep going on the way I was heading (Head…who said head!) and would cut across somewhere further on.

They went their way and I went mine but it took much longer to get over to the lane they were on than I thought and I actually crossed the trail twice before I finally caught them at an intersection. I must say that there are many beautiful homes in that area. From there it was a short jog down to the start and the hares and walkers were waiting for us on the restaurant patio. All in all a very good hash and Kudo’s to the hares.

ON! ON!

#1000 Description

Since losing track of our hash numbering over the past 10-20 years due to senility and maybe too much drinking... By the slaughtering a fattened calf and many doves to the hash Gods, it has been divined that early this June, Budapest Hash House Harriers, Hungary's premier hash, conditions will be most favorable to host our 1,000th hash....especially since many of our members are getting a bit long in the tooth.

Through tremendous team spirit, marinated with healthy doses of beers, more than a few Shut The Fuck Ups, we have mismanaged concockting a weekend we are sure you will remember...like your first case of crabs. Surprisingly we want to share it with you, again, like your first case of crabs.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? I am sure you all heard about our monumental #900th run 2 years ago, we still reminisce about it around the camp fire while roasting marshmallows. Well it seems you can in fact start too late with getting out information, 2 weeks proved not to be enough for you people to get your shit together.

We've learned!

Start your clocks, you now have 4 months to plan to get your asses to Budapest to join us for the once in a lifetime hash.

I have ZERO reservations in saying this will be the best Budapest Hash House Harriers #1000 run EVER!!! (you can tell I am serious because of the 3 exclamation marks)

1st Hash of 2010

Run Report 9.. written by Haggis

Hares: Andrea (Ropy Tits), Giving Head

Runners: Incredible and Rabies

Walkers: Eager Beaver, Haggis, Agi, Anikó (visiting from England)

We had our coldest Hash run/walk on this snowy, windy and frosty Sunday morning. Giving Head gave a helping hand to a Virgin Hare, Andrea who was baptized later but at this point she was still Andrea.

Very cleverly the trail was well prepared the day before, all the flour was layed but the problem was that snowing started later so white flour under lots of white snow was not very easy to detect ......|

The hares were not enthusiastic or smart enough to reset the trail early in the morning before the hash with red pepper ... but GH requested Incredible Hulk to put a bottle of Uni-come into the beer bag hoping that drunk hashers would not need guidance in the snow.

The beer arrived late because Haggis had to run home to charge her phone leaving the Hashers freezing to death waiting.

„Agi (Turner) needed Incredible to give her something to warm her up before she would start the walk - when she was satisfied the Hash started” (quote from Incredible)

The trail started mercilessly up and up a steep slope and continued up some steps. Some less fit Walkers almost went home. (Ten Minutes Late would have enjoyed it.)

The Hare shouted when the runners reached a check, as they were invisible under the snow (so how could the runners find the trail of invisible flour?)

Then the trail took us up more steps, then into the woods. At he hill top we had a very good hash view of Budapest. As some hashers were still feeling cold we had a Father Abraham stop at the top.

It was a bit slippery downhill but finally we found ourselves in the most posh ever beer stop at the Árnyas restaurant with turn-of-the-century decor, striped wallpaper and an elegant stove Three hashers had mulled wine but the rest of the pack went for beer. When we saw the menu, decided to go back to the resto to eat. The hashers were so hungry that GH allowed them to cheat and get on a bus to reach the beer car.

During the circle everybody was freezing so Unicum rescued us, especially GH, who had a lot of down-downs but also kept pouring this wonderful brown stuff into other hashers’ glasses.

Then the solemn moment(s) of Andrea’s naming came. Due to the freezing wind hashers accepted the only one suggestion: Ropy Tits (for those who were not present, it refers to her hobby of being tied up... hence "rope", with a second meaning of "ropy" - British English meaning of ropy being slang for poor quality or inferior).

The the circle finished with Swing Low and the pack rushed back to the beer stop to eat (except Rabies).
